A pop music radio show for people who already know plenty about pop music, hosted by Ron "Boogiemonster" Gerber and heard every Friday night from 10 to midnight on 90.3 KFAI-FM, Minneapolis, and KFAI.org.
KFAI pre-empted "Crap From The Past" (on its 28th birthday, no less) to air a concert.
So, I used this week's show to revisit the pop world from which "Crap From The Past" was born.
CFTP's first episode was on January 31, 1992. This was not a particularly strong time for pop music, to put in mildly.
Casey Kasem left "American Top 40" in 1988, and started a competing show called "Casey's Top 40" in 1989. Shadoe Stevens replaced Casey on "American Top 40." Eventually, in 1995, "Casey's Top 40" killed off Shadoe's "American Top 40." In 1998, Casey reclaimed the name "American Top 40" for his own countdown, and continued hosting the countdown until 2009.
To show you what was out there when I started CFTP, I present the full episode of "Casey's Top 40" from the week of the first CFTP show. (Technically, the show I present here is for Feb 1 1992. The great Mark Elliott filled in for Casey on the Jan 25 1992 show, but I wanted Casey to count them down for you.)
Enjoy, and thanks for listening to "Crap From The Past" for the past 28 years!
